An apicoectomy, also known as root-end resection, is a surgical procedure performed when conventional root canal treatment isn't sufficient to save a tooth. It's often considered when an infection persists or develops after a root canal or retreatment.
During an apicoectomy, the dentist accesses the root tip by making a small incision in the gum tissue near the affected tooth. The infected tissue and the root tip are carefully removed. The end of the root is then sealed to prevent further infection, promoting healing of the surrounding tissues.
